About Boundary Adventures
Boundary in a Box® is a self-healing game system composed for emotional growth. The games (Boundary Adventures) guide you to combine imaginative play with common body-mind healing practices, and simple somatic (body) psychotherapy techniques (BodyMind Play) to encourage personal growth and healthy relationships.
Boundary Adventures are composed so that you play with all sensory learning styles: sight, hearing, touch, voice, imagination.... You play Boundary Adventures to discover, explore, and support the relationship between the life-energy that is uniquely you, the emotions generated by your life experiences, and the sensations in your body. You nurture and support the enormously powerful trio of your mind, body, and emotions to develop healthy a relationship with your self and Others.
Boundary Adventures develop a familiar body vocabulary. You’ll discover a way of listening for your own inner sensory experience, your personal truth. Boundary Adventures teach you BodyMind Play so you can support that truth in your world, moment to moment.
Boundary Adventures guide you to recognize basic ways in which you make contact with others, avoid contact, and adjust to changing circumstances. You’ll discover where, when, and how you shut off or open-up your life-energy and your feelings.
Boundary Adventures change old habits of response into new, healthier ways of being. You’ll rehearse new solutions to old problems. You’ll learn to stay externally calm and internally resourceful as you face the intricate intimacies of life.
Stay open-minded as you play. Pay attention and remain curious before taking action. Focus your attention on the specific experience of the feeling or sensation, instead of analyzing it. Insight and analysis will follow your Boundary experience, after the Adventure.
Here's More Information...
Boundary Adventures help you self-regulate your emotions. They reveal how your emotions are influenced by contact with Others (any person, situation, emotion, substance, ideology…), and how your feelings, such as anxiety, joy, anger and sadness, impact your on-going social interactions. The body sensations that underlie your internal emotional state become the clues that teach you how to self-regulate your emotions. Play Boundary Adventures and you’ll soon learn to become aware of, and manage, fast-acting body experiences and unexpected events that occur at consciousness levels that are often beneath awareness.
Neuroscience has shown how a face can be registered within 40 milliseconds and evaluated within a 100 milliseconds. The subtle exchange of gesture, eye contact, tone of voice, etc. are picked up and processed very quickly. The ways in which your body-mind picks up and sends back the emotional communications of Others are made obvious as you explore the interactive dynamics presented by Boundary Adventures.
BodyMind Play (combining imaginative play, body-mind healing practices and somatic psychology techniques) helps you detect subtly perceptible qualities that signal safety and danger. The Boundary Adventures in BodyMind Boundaries for Beginners, 2nd Revised Edition, teach you BodyMind Play so you can identify and discriminate your moment to moment, and your long-term, experiences of emotional injury and well-being.
Neuroscience has also exposed how early experiences of contact with your mother serve to not only minimize negative emotional states-of-being, but also maximize positive states. You can remove your symptoms of fear, anxiety, and other difficult emotions, but in the long run this is not enough to sustain the kind of healthy contentment you crave. Those difficult feelings will flare up again under stress unless you add positive emotions, like interest, excitement and enjoyment. This is key to long lasting well-being. With this understanding, Boundary Adventures mindfully guide you to cultivate a body experience of positive emotions as a foundation (HomeBase) to your well-being.
In order to more skillfully face your most difficult challenges in life, Boundary Adventures emphasize feeling positive emotions in conjunction with anxiety. Your body-mind sense of personal space (cord boundary) helps you learn to feel safe because as you imagine and reenact your contact experiences, there’s an opportunity for expression without the consequences of real life. Out in the world, BodyMind Play gives you a way of creating a safe distance, or separation from conflicts, and a deeper connection with your Self, when you are in contact with Others. You’ve practiced during Boundary Adventures and can now simultaneously experience your challenges, such as strong emotions, and remain in control of the state of your body and mind.
Boundary Adventures guide you to discover the interplay between emotional restraint (containment) and emotional release (spreading). This interaction between holding and letting go is a central component when you want to self-regulate your emotions. Learn to manage containing and spreading your life-energy and you’ll be able to release strong feelings and body tensions through appropriate and acceptable channels. In the face of intensely frustrating, or pleasurable, encounters, BodyMind Play gives you the techniques to skillfully guide your behaviors and emotions.
Boundary Adventures help you learn to experience emotions in small doses. It won’t take too long until you begin to recognize and trust the level at which you can tolerate the influx and discharge of feeling. Some players find support when they actually access and express their emotions via their body. Other players discover how to contain their life-energy flow so it’s not carried away by emotion. These sensory experiences give players greater connection with their emotions and their body. All Boundary Adventurers learn to explore, spread, and contain body-mind impulses.
Boundary Adventures help you find a self-trust that deepens your sense of Self. BodyMind Play increases your ability to self-sooth the nicks and abrasions that happen in any relationship in which Others are important to you. Self-soothing helps you stay flexible and adaptable so you can tolerate and enjoy a broader range of contact with Others. Your fears of exposure, abandonment, engulfment, angry attack, loss of control, and your own destructive impulses, become an arena for your personal growth when you play Boundary Adventures.
